The company was present in various activities focused on
environmental protection. An information booth was situated
in the old customs building on the 5th of June (80 institutions
and companies participated). Staff from the refinery and
Headquarters motivated Limón neighbors this same month
to use fuel in a rational manner and take care of the rich
biodiversity of the Caribbean province.
In the activity titled: “One smokeless day for my green Limon”,
a group of volunteers from RECOPE assisted by providing fruit
and water. Limon neighbors participated under the bright sun
of Limon by riding their bikes, trotting and walking with the
group.
RECOPE participated in the Environmental Festival of the
Lourdes in Agua Caliente community of Cartago that was
organized on the 15th of June by the Mario Fernandez Alfaro
Education Center, with the support and sponsorship of Holcim
Costa Rica. Our stand was visited by thousands of children from
over 10 schools and the neighbors in the area.

Fathers and mothers accompanied their children during the Hot
Water Green Festival on the 20th of June. A green fair was held
in the gardens of the National Children’s Hospital and generated
plentiful involvement of children, parents and facility officials.
Dr. Rodolfo Hernández, the hospital´s director, welcomed the
opportunity to engage the public in initiatives that help to
mitigate emissions of toxic gases into the environment.
The ending of the “green month” was held on the 24th of June
in the province of Limón. RECOPE organized a recreational
cycling race titled “One smokeless day for my green Limon”.
This initiative was well received by the public. Children, youths,
adults and people with disabilities participated enthusiastically.
The following provided important support: the municipality,
the Rotaract Club, UNED and other community organizations
that came together to make this day a wholesome family
meeting.
BIO-FUELS AND ALTERNATIVE SOURCES
The Refinadora Costarricense de Petróleo (RECOPE S.A.) and Ad
Astra Rocket Company Costa Rica signed a joint agreement on
the 24th of July in order to develop research for high pressure
hydrogen storage systems.
The agreement is part of a cooperation framework between
the Ministerio de Ambiente, Energía y Telecomunicaciones
(MINAET), RECOPE, the School of Agriculture of the Tropical
Humid Region (EARTH) and Ad Astra Rocket, in order to join
forces in research and application of renewable energy sources
in the country.
The RECOPE S.A. - Ad Astra Costa Rica Rocket Company
agreement includes the design, implementation and
commissioning of an experimental high pressure hydrogen
storage system.
