QUALITY ANALYSIS RESULTS YEAR 2012
Source: Crafts PR-0600-2012
According to the average sulfur percentages of gasoline, diesel
and bunker, and based on the volume of sales for the period
2012, it is estimated that SO2 emissions nationwide, as a result
of the consumption of fuels sold in the period was 22.26% less
than the national standards allow for these products.
We took into account the recommendations made by two thesis
from the Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica (ITCR) oriented
towards improving El Alto terminal with regards to reductions
in greenhouse gas emissions, pursuant to the National Climate
Change Strategy (ENCC), 2021 Carbon Neutral action Plans for
public institutions.
One investigation, by Sofia Sanchez Calderon, quantified
greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) on the campus and the other
is a proposed model for sustainable energy management (at
this same distribution terminal) authored by Engineer, José
Alberto Saborío Ramirez, from the Maintenance department in
El Alto de Ochomogo terminal.
.
The first investigation used emission estimation methods and
provided results that were fundamental for making decisions
regarding mitigation measures in this facility. These mitigation
measures may be used as model for other terminals. The
second investigation provides a tool that helps to optimize
the use of electric power and extends this possibility to energy
conservation programs that may be emulated in other terminals.
The results of both studies were presented on the 23rd of May,
2012, at El Alto Training Room. Participation included staff from
Distribution and Sales Management, SAS, the Environmental
Unit, Engineering, Maintenance and Planning.
