the year a little above US $107/bbl. In regard to ultra low diesel
sulfur the maximum price was submitted in March (US $140/
bbl) and the minimum value in June (US $109.33/bbl), closing
in the last 15 days of the year with an average price above US
$124 per barrel.
The factors affecting high pricing during the last quarter of 2012
were diverse: the Syria-Turkey conflict, the Israel-Gaza elections
in early November and the effect of Hurricane Sandy on the
east coast of the United States, leaving some refineries out of
operation for weeks due to a consequent drop in inventories
such as gasoline. The most influential event was the end of the
fiscal year (the “Fiscal cliff” - an agreement between Democrats
and Republicans on the 31st of December, 2012).

market for products such as Brent benchmark crude, LPG, Petrol

and bio-fuel alternatives.
