COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND VOLUNTEERING
In continuance of the accountability program, a forum was held
on October, at the regional headquarters of the University of
Costa Rica (UCR) in Limón. This forum gathered representatives
from Limon´s Chamber of Commerce, the Agency for
Development of Limón, Limón Horsemen Association, and UCR
faculty, staff and students.
During the activity the following intervened: Sitrapequia´s
general secretary, Gilbert Brown, and RECOPE´s president, Jorge
Villalobos Clare along with Jorge Rojas RECOPE´s CEO, providing
valuable input on the Modernization of the Refinery.
The Director of the regional headquarters of the UCR in Limón,
Ricardo Win Arguello, highlighted the opportunity, represented
by the forum, to come to terms with the project´s specific
details and its impact on Limón (particularly in employment).
He remarked upon the Company-syndicate union with regards
to the Modernization project.
RECOPE´s directors explained how the international oil market
operates, they talked about domestic consumption and the
production capacity that would be required to meet demand
in the coming years; they talked about CNPC (China National
Petroleum Corporation), the partner with whom RECOPE joined
to form the joint venture (SORESCO) that will build the new
refinery with a production capacity of 65 000 barrels per day at
a cost of US $1.350 million.
Moreover refining exposed the scheme selected to
operationalize the new plant and the various products that are
obtained from the same quality standards internacional.
