RECOPE’s
quality
assurance
has been constant, allowing
RECOPE to introduce increasingly
environmentally
friendly
fuel
formulas. Lead was removed
completely from gasoline in 1996
whilst, at the same time, sulfur
levels began to be diminished
in diesel, gasoline and bunker.
This has been recognized by
health and environmental control
authorities. Today we march closer
to energy security, environmental
protection and product quality
with a new refinery.
Nowadays we have the best
diesel in the region with regards
to sulfur content by keeping it at
maximum rate of 15 ppm, while
other countries allow up to 5000
ppm (100 times higher). Gasoline
is imported without additives, and
neither countries nor the Central
American Technical Regulation
regulate this.
Fuel quality is set in a country or
region according to the number of
vehicles, acquisition capabilities
and the potential to provide a
healthy environment. In Central
America the governing provisions
are provided by the Central
American Technical Regulation,
