There are also National Technical
Regulations that are a little bit
more rigorous (than the Central
American ones), they are based on
norm ASTM D 4814-00, “Standard
Specification
for
Automotive
Spark-Ignition Engine Fuel” which
is a global reference in fuel quality
standards.
With regards to the recent events
related to MMT additives carried
out by two gasoline suppliers,
it ought to be mentioned that
although there are no established
regulations in this regard, RECOPE
has contracts with its suppliers
(JP Morgan Ventures Energy
Corp. and Lukoil Pan Americas
LLC) that request reports on any
fuel additives. As the suppliers
failed to report the addition of
MMT used to improve the octane,
respective claims were made.
According
to
the
Central
American
Regulations
there
was no reason to determine
manganese content or MMT, so
it was not a result of negligence,
omission or a lack of exercise in
quality control expected by the
consumer on behalf of RECOPE´s
Quality Control System.
