the domestic supply. A mission
that it has fulfilled efficiently as the
country has always had enough
fuel to meet demand.
RECOPE
has
made
many
contributions
to
geological
and
watershed
studies
via
research on hydrocarbons in the
country. During the eighties,
the exploration of oil and coal
on behalf of the company gave
a significant boost to the basic
knowledge of the country´s
geology; a select group of
professionals
from
different
branches of basic and applied
geology carried out explorations
with new geophysical methods
and techniques.
All this allowed the country to
acquire a better understanding of
the environment, the geological
processes around us, andpotential
energy
resources. This
was
complemented by exploration
studies, evaluations and projects
for the exploitation of geothermic
energy sources such as the
Geothermal Field of Miravalles and
Tenorio (“Geothermal Resources
Program and Department of
Geology”, ICE ).
Since its beginnings, RECOPE
has given a boost to the South
Atlantic Region, specifically to
Bribri, Talamanca and surrounding
communities. During the eighties
it was the only company with
a presence in the region and,
jointly with JAPDEVA, it faced and
performed many developments
on infrastructure so as to enable
and provide access to Petroleum
Exploration teams. On many
