The Costa Rican Oil Refinery (RECOPE.SA.) is a public company
with 50 years of existence, since its inception has focused its operations to
import, refining, processing and distribution of fuel required by the country;
provides about 70% of the commercial energy required for economic and
social development in Costa Rica.
To fulfill its mission and vision RECOPE built the National Fuel
System, consisting of the oil terminal located in the Port of Moin, Limon,
Caribbean area, where shipments of raw materials are received; four sites
of distribution and sales, interconnected by a pipeline. The largest of them
is located in Moin, where the refinery, then to the central plateau are the
terminals of El Alto Ochomogo Carthage, La Garita in Alajuela Puntarenas
and Barranca. Also has facilities for fuel sales in the four international and
local airports: Juan Santamaría in Alajuela, Liberia Daniel Oduber Quiros,
Tobias Bolanos Airport in San José, Pavas Airport and Limón.
For pumping products to various outlets, has four pumping
stations, located in Moin, Limón, Turrialba and El Alto.
At the end of the period 2010-2014 total storage capacity RECOPE,
adding all campuses is approximately 3,495,000 barrels. The country
consumes about 50,000 barrels per day, this means about 70 days of
inventory, which allows RECOPE fulfill its mission to supply the fuel supply in
Costa Rica, uninterrupted, open 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Items are sold RECOPE: Super Petrol, Bio-Plus Fuel, Diesel, Aviation
fuel Jet-A1, AV-GAS Gasoline, kerosene, asphalt AC-30, Bunker, Liquefied
PetroleumGas, IFOS, Asphalt Emulsion, Heavy diesel (diesel) Heavy Naphtha,
and maintains a distribution pilot Ethanol blended gasoline in the Canyon
campus, which is distributed only in the provinces of Guanacaste and
Putarenas project.
It also maintains research projects for the development of
alternative fuels such as biofuels, natural gas and hydrogen.
