Investigation regarding alternate sources
Important progress was made in investigations regarding
management of a production and storage system for high-pressure
hydrogen, which has opened a wide range of possibilities for the use of this
chemical element as an alternate fuel source. This was been an ongoing
project since the year 2011 with the help of Ad Astra Rocket, under a
cooperation alliance agreement.
In the month of December 2013, the formal delivery of the
“Experimental system for the production, compression and storage of gas
for various uses at a minimum pressure of 700 bar” was performed, as part
of the results for Phase B of the investigation, with significant information
regarding the introduction of this fuel source for the Costa Rican national
transportation system as one possible application. Also, a proposal letter
was signed, in which the parties agree to continue their efforts in this
investigation in a more advance phase.
This progress allows having a perspective for all the alternatives for
the use of hydrogen, including using pure hydrogen stored in high-pressure
tanks with a hydrogen dispenser and use it for cars designed for this purpose.
These vehicles will have fuel cells to operate on hydrogen.
For Phase B, RECOPE provided human and financial resources in a
total amount of US$1.4 million.
