Annual Report 2013 www.recope.com
The work performed on the terminals is aimed at
optimizing and expand RECOPE’s total storage capacity,
which is actually at 3 495 000 barrels. The country consumes
approximately 50 000 oil barrels per day, which means that
the safety net inventory must be reinforced in such a way
that RECOPE may comply with its responsibility to cover the
fuel supply in Costa Rica without interruptions, operating 24
hours a day, seven days a week.
Regarding the investigation area, it is important to
highlight the progress made in the development of hydrogen
storage systems. Additionally, an experimental biodiesel plant
is currently operational and, with the help of internships and
various agreements, work on the development of biofuels
is performed alongside government run universities and
investigation centers.
For those of us now assuming the responsibility
of continuing with these ongoing projects, it is of key
importance to exercise the necessary coordination to achieve
them as soon as possible. I amhere full of hope because Costa
Rica has chosen a path of change and we are willing to work
and fulfill the country’s expectations. With humbleness, I have
accepted the challenge, fully aware that there is a lot to learn
in the oil industry.
I cannot ignore the problems faced by RECOPE
in matters regarding refinery activities, which is of great
concern and is among the priority issues that the Board of
Directors, which I preside, will pay special attention to.
I consider that RECOPE is one of the companies
worth strengthening. CCSS, ICE andRECOPE are fundamental
cornerstones of the country’s social wellbeing and simply
cannot disappear.
If there are issues to fix, we will fix them, with the
certainty that good faith and will must always be present.
The new Board of Directors is committed to serving the
country and not individual or group interests. For that
reason, transparency and honestly will be the pillars and
focus of this new administration and of all those serving in
public office. We will be focused on this commitment.
