Using full fire fighting gear, each unit had to lay
out the hoses, overcome obstacles and extinguish the
flammable liquids fires.
Social projects
ERECOPE´s float, titled “Yesterday and Today”,
was inspired by the celebration of the company’s 50th
anniversary and it stood out in the Grand Parade,
acknowledging the contributions from the afro
descendent cultures and RECOPE, with its heart in
Limón. Yesteryears were represented by an old car and
the present was represented by a plane, both icons
representing the energy that promotes the country’s
development.
Several social projects are being developed
in this province. Among them, the first workshop for
developing a turtle conservation and rescue strategy for
theCaribbean tookplaceduring themonthof September,
with the participation of RECOPE Environmental Unit,
in a joint effort with the National Areas Conservation
System from the Ministry of Environment and Energy.
A pilot plan for this strategy was created, which was
presented to government entities in Limón, who have
direct jurisdiction on this matter.
Delegates from the Police Force, Coast
Guards, National Animal Health Service (SENASA),
Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Ministry of
Health, National
Learning Institute (INA), Costa Rican Institute
for Fishing and Aquaculture (INCOPESCA), University
of Costa Rica (UCR), Municipality of Limón, and the
Mixed Social Assistance Institute (IMAS) participated
in this activity.
The complexity of the problem and the
need of a joint effort from all government entities to
achieve a successfully strategy was address during
this meeting, with each institute incorporating in its
own goals those concrete actions that would help the
project. It is projected that the operational phase of
this plan could begin in the year 2014.
Hence, RECOPE strengthened its sustainable
social and environmental responsibility policy,
expanding its scope to turtle conversation nationwide.
