RECOPEANNUALREPORT2014
SO2 emission control
Based on the maximum sulfur content established by current standards,
and total sales in cubic meters of gasoline, diesel and bunker, the volume of SO2
emissions is estimated per product. In 2014, the estimated emissions at the standard
limit were 19,586 tons of SO2, while actual emissions accounted for 15,296 tons of
SO2.
In 2014, the estimated actual emissions of SO2 that the Company
generated nationally, as a result of the consumption of fuels sold in the year was
21.90% lower than allowed by national standards for these products.
To mitigate the emission of greenhouse effect gases as part of the
Climate Change Plan, the company has developed a series of measures to account
for its energy consumption, volume of emissions and capacity to mitigate and offset
them. The actions include the following:
Since 2007, inventories have been kept regarding the emission
of greenhouse gases, although it is still not possible to make such inventories
systematically, this has improved information management of energy consumption at
a corporate level.
Studies have been conducted to analyze the possibility of introducing the use of
biofuels in the national energy mix.
Early emission reduction initiatives were implemented through actions to improve
energy saving and efficiency in operations and facilities of RECOPE, as well as cleaner
production projects in the expansion and improvement of oil infrastructure.
Conservation of biodiversity
Within the frameworkpresentedduring the IVMesoamericanCongress for
Protected Areas, under the slogan “from land to sea, joining people and ecosystems”,
RECOPEparticipatedwitha standexplaining tovisitors howtheir actions canpositively
impact the environment, with special information regarding turtle conservation in the
Caribbean coast.
The objective of the workshop was to share experiences and identify
measures to improvemanagement of protected areas inMesoamerica, integrated into
landscapes and seascapes for the conservation of biodiversity, ecosystem services
and the promotion of human welfare the region, with the effective participation of
indigenous peoples, Afro-descendants and peasant communities.
