2016 ANNUAL REPORT
Completing these projects will increase
the company’s inventory storage limit and,
therefore, RECOPE’s ability to provide
uninterrupted nationwide coverage and
fuel distribution services. The general
aspects of each of these projects and
subprojects are specified below.
Barranca
This project entailed installing two
aviation fuel storage tanks in the
Barranca Terminals, in the province of
Puntarenas, each with a storage capacity
of 4,000 m
3
(25,000 bbl), and a Jet
A-1 loading/unloading platform with
two loading arms and a load/discharge
capacity of 136 m
3
per hour (600 gallons
per minute). The total cost of the project
was $10,824,402 USD. The project was
completed on June 28
th
, 2016. Since that
date, Jet A-1 fuel is transported from the
Barranca Terminals to the point of sale at
the Daniel Oduber International Airport
in Liberia, Guanacaste.
This project will allow RECOPE to meet
the growing demand for fuel at this
airport terminal, where Jet A-1 sales
have doubled in the last quinquennium
(from 23,409,793 liters sold in 2010 to
41,220,772 in 2015), and show no sign
of slowing down. In addition, maintaining
an inventory of Jet A-1 fuel in Barranca
will save tanker trucks traveling from
La Garita to Liberia close to one hour of
travel time, thus reducing the probability
of occurrence of road hazards and other
risk factors. Jet A-1 is one of the most
commonly used fuels in passenger and/
or cargo aircraft propelled by jet engines.
La Garita
Two Plus 91 Gasoline storage tanks and
two Diesel storage tanks, each with a
capacity of 8,000 m
3
(50,000 bbl), were
installed for a cost of $16,262.332
O
USD
in the La Garita Terminals. Installation of
the four storage tanks was completed
on August 17
th
, 2016. Shortly thereafter
the roads were paved with asphalt,
the workshop’s electrical wiring
was relocated, the guardhouse was
constructed, and other minor works
were completed. Provisory approval was
given on November 21
st
, 2016.
The inventory storage limit for Plus 91
Gasoline rose to 200,000 barrels (as part
of 2 old and 2 new 50,000-barrel storage
tanks). Similarly, the inventory storage
limit for Diesel rose to 250,000 barrels
(as part of 3 old and 2 new 50,000-barrel
storage tanks). The storage tanks were
in the operational follow-up stage by the
end of the year.
