Management
La labor de RECOPE en materia ambiental
fue reconocida como excelente por
la Dirección de Gestión de la Calidad
Ambiental (DIGECA) del Ministerio de
Ambiente y Energía (MINAE) la cual, en
su evaluación del nivel de avance en la
implementación del Programa de Gestión
Ambiental Institucional (PGAI), para el
2016 le otorgó una calificación de 95.65.

Achievements
1. Programa Bandera Azul
Ecológica (Blue Flag
Ecology Program)
This program is part of the
company’s 2016-2021 Strategic
Plan. Three of RECOPE’s
installations obtained to the Blue
Flag
Eco-Certification
under
the category of Climate Change
in 2016, including: the Office
of Development Management’s
Terminal in Moín, the Moín
Terminal, and the corporate
headquarters (Hernán Garrón
Building, San Jose). The corrective
measures that must be adopted
to obtain the Blue Flag Eco-
certification in each of the above-
mentioned installations take the
assessed criteria into consideration,
as regards to the company and
the environment. This will allow
RECOPE to measure the progress
made in terms of environmental
management, within the framework
of its continuous improvement
efforts. RECOPE expects to apply
to the Blue Flag Eco-certification in
all of its installations by 2017.
2. Dengue Prevention and
Control Program.
RECOPE was once again certified
as a “dengue-free company” in
2016. This is mainly due to the
fact that RECOPE has not relented
in its efforts to eradicate mosquito
breeding sites and, therefore, reduce
the population of mosquitoes that
transmit the dengue, chikungunya
or zika virus. Two of the measures
taken in furtherance of the dengue
prevention and control program
are: the fumigation of company
facilities and their surroundings;
and the annual inspections carried
out by employees of the Ministry of
Public Health of Costa Rica.
3. Environmental
Management
Institutional Program
(PGAI).
RECOPE prepared a report on the
projects that have been successfully
carried out within the company,
in terms of energy efficiency and
energy savings, at the request of the
Ministry of Environment and Energy
(MINAE). The report was uploaded
to the official website of the Office of
Environmental Quality Management
(DIGECA). Additionally, an audit
was carried out by DIGECA in
December 2016. The audit showed
that RECOPE had not fallen behind,
and had consistently received high
