Under the same program, and with the proper
legal authorization, the company donated obsolete
equipment and other scrap to the municipalities
in the amount of ¢40 million colones: ¢21 million
colones worth of scrap was donated to the Orphan’s
Hospice of San Jose, and ¢4 million colones worth
of computer equipment and other materials were
donated to the Ministry of Public Education’s Board
of Education.
The total cost of donations amounted to
¢278,905,548 colones. 684,046.00 liters of
approved donations remain undelivered as multiple
municipalities have yet to appear for pick-up.
Construction of a subfluvial tunnel in Rio Lajas
began immediately after, with the objective of re-
enabling supply routes 1 and 2 by laying down new
pipes.
In addition, several tests were conducted, including
topographical, geological and geophysical tests. A
trench – approximately 250 meters long, 15 meters
wide, and 8 meters deep – was excavated and
600 meters-worth of 6-inch pipes were installed.
In complement of these efforts, construction of a
frame and cement foundation to protect supply
routes 1 and 2 was being planned; all these projects
remained incomplete by the end of the year.
The cost of these projects, including land surveying,
formwork and ditch excavation, for future control,
amounted to approximately US$500,000.00.
Furthermore, approval was given to the project
proposal of constructing a bridge in Rio Torito. The
plan is to build a bridge with a suitable height and
avoid future natural hazards, such as landslides, that
could compromise supply lines 1 and 2.
