Ecological Blue Flag Program (Programa
Bandera Azul Ecológica – PBAE), Climate
Change Mitigation Unit
In 2015, by decision of the administration, the
company set its sights on adopting the Ecological
Blue Flag Program (PBAE), Climate Change
Mitigation Unit, in every one of its plants and
storage sites; going so far as to include it as one of
the key indicators of the 2016-2021 Strategic Plan
and strengthening the company’s environmental
commitment in the process.
To this end, multiple local committees were
appointed in all of RECOPE’s facilities, and a
Business Action Plan was developed, along with
the necessary documentation, to provide induction
training and orientation to the respective committees
in Moín, Barranca, La Garita, and Central
Headquarters.
In October 2015, a waste management program was
implemented in Hernán Garrón Building, and efforts
were made in furtherance of energy and water
consumption efficiency, with great success.
In Moín, an energy saving program was developed;
the program consists of constantly monitoring
and repairing vapor leaks, coating and repairing
the pipes with thermal insulation materials, and
monitoring the consumption of bunker fuel. This
program saved the company an estimated ¢1,000
million colones in a year. In addition, a condensate
recovery system was installed; allowing the
